Each year on the 14th of October, the members of the International Electro-technical Commission (IEC), the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) celebrate World Standards Day, which is a means of paying tribute to the collaborative efforts of thousands of experts worldwide who develop the voluntary technical agreements that are published as International Standards. Seychelles, through the Seychelles Bureau of Standards is corresponding member of ISO, an affiliated country under the Developing Country Programme with IEC whereas DICT is a member of ITU.
To commemorate this occasion the Seychelles Bureau of Standards seizes the opportunity to raise awareness on international standards, i.e. their importance and how they can be implemented in our daily lives.
This year’s theme for World Standards Day is “Standards for SDGs – Shared vision for a better world.” The SDGs were set up by the United Nations General Assembly and are to be achieved by the year 2030.
